I just got her. Like an hour ago

She was shipped and I do not want to shock her more

She has some obvious bound roots with tubers – nice ones actually coming out bottom- she already has a couple of spiderettes.

Obviously she needs an upgrade despite liking some binding

But I’m thinking I should wait a couple of weeks to be safe.

Or

Do I just double shock her? And get it over in one go then I’m done for a year or two

Advice ?

I like to put my newly shipped plants under a grow light for a couple weeks to acclimate before I repot.

  5. Let her settle first. If anyone can handle a little root lock: it’s Bonnie.

    Edit: typo

She looks very happy and healthy. Give her a couple of weeks to acclimate and then repot.

I’d give her a little time before doing anything major. She just went through shipping, which is already stressful, so repotting right away might be a bit much. Spider plants are actually pretty okay being a little root-bound, and those thick roots and tubers you’re seeing are a good sign, not a problem.

Me, personally, I would repot a size up. I have a few of these plants & they do just fine when I repot when their roots start to show

Either way is fine! Being rootbound isn’t an urgent issue, but spider plants are hardy as hell and repotting right after it was shipped is unlikely to phase it.

I’d say you’d be good to repot now, but it’s not urgent. Spider plants are super resilient which is why I love them. It’ll survive either way, but I’d say you’re good to go. Give it good soil and good drainage, plentiful indirect sunlight, and it will be very happy

I always find I have to use a pot 2” larger or I’d repot a couple times a year. They grow like weeds when happy. If you want it to flower and send babies then let it stay a bit root bound, but they still put off some when they have space.

Bonnie called she wants a repot. 🙂
