I have been trying to make a full video for the future plans for the garden for ages. But living in a housing estate, the sounds of life can make that hard, especially when you are terrible at editing!
So, here it is: a very raw video with way too many close-ups, too much cursing, and dog barking at 3.30 minutes in. And then, at 4.26 minutes in, a heads-up for any headphone wearers: I humbly apologise.
These are very loose plans for the garden. And, it will definitely change as the garden evolves. But all we can do is get started. Veggies are on the way, and a massive bag of compost is ordered.
I need to work my ass off to get some bucks up to pay for the future privacy and security plans. A higher fence along one side, a Hornbeam hedge along the other, and then the side entrance roofed over to create that nice little microclimate for growing cucumbers, etc.
Pollinator-friendly plants all along the top raised bed. The bottom bed, all veggies and herbs. We are trying to create a little garden here that will supply me, my daughter, my family and my neighbours with healthy food. While also creating different types of healthy ecosystems within the garden for nature to thrive. Like ponds, leaving little corners of the garden wild for insects to set up a little gaff. Different types of areas, like a stone area for spiders, a bark area for other insects to nest under. Long grass areas. The possibilities are endless!
We have only been living here for 2 years, and we have already achieved so much in the garden. When we moved in, it was just the two raised beds full of ground-covering plants. I removed all of them and planted everything else that is there now. Put down the artificial lawn and got that lovely shed from Abwood in Timmore, Newtown Mount Kennedy, in Wicklow. They delivered and set it up within two hours! Anywho, now it’s time to get food growing!!!!!
