Finally got our new patio planted up! So nearly finished now, just needs grouting and the spike lights wiring up. But my god that was an epic trip to the garden centre. It is a miracle the black cherry kept its blossom after 15 miles in the back of a tipper. I’ve got a red acer chilling at the back corner too. Both trees will cast wonderful dappled evening light onto the corten wall. North facing so the rest is ferns ferns ferns, hydrangea, fatsia and quite a few azalea. Going for a jungle understory vibe. I’m very pleased. It took ALL winter due to the terrible weather. Here’s a before and after!

There’s space for some hosta and heuchura but I’ve left it for now. I’m not sure how much the ferns will grow and knit together or whether it needs more. Any other suggestions? I’d like some winter interest but it gets very cold and damp up here in the north east.
