In the spring of last year I converted a part of my yard to a golf chipping practice area. With a hitting portion on one side and a green style looking area where the grass is fairway length for more realistic and even roll out.
I core aerated the area and top dressed with very sandy soil (about 70-30 sand). I planted a lateral spread perennial ryegrass. Watered lots, and fertilized well.

The second 2 photos are what it looks like now.
The 1st photo is what it looked like in the fall.
As things begin to warm up in Southern Ontario, It looks like there’s been some serious die off..
Where should I go from here?
TLDR;
Golf chipping practice landing area looking rough after first winter. 0.5 inch PRG. Looking for advice on where to go from here, and how to protect it next winter.

Don’t know what the grade is but you could have water moving over that area. Water always wins. If not could be just wear and tear. Golf courses put in a lot of time and money to keep high traffic areas looking good.
Overseed the annual rye again
Do you have a reel mower?
Keep cutting and top dressing.
It’s going to take a little bit of work to get it right.
