This begonia has been in water for over three months. I had gotten it from Lowe’s and gave it a bath when I brought home to avoid bringing in any pest if there were any that I couldn’t see. After I stuck it in this mason jar and thought “this is kind of cute… I’ll leave it for a few days” well a few days turned into three months as my other begonia (same kind) that I also gave a bath… that I ended up repotting basically died. This one seems to be thriving in water. Sprouting new leaves and even has tiny ones sprouting under water!! I’m still new to plants and wondered if these can thrive in water?! Any guidance or advice would be appreciated (:

They can root in water, and do ok for a bit, but both root and stems will eventually rot. Faster if these roots came from soil. They’re just not aquatic.
I’m in Southern California, the dry side. I would like to know this too! I also bought a Polka-Dot begonia from Lowes, and after a couple of weeks, it’s leaves are dry and crispy. I gave it a good watering, but now it’s stems are droopy! Maybe I should put the whole plant is some clean cool water and let it sit, and see what happens!

I to just slap shit in a mason jar lol
I have found that mine have thrived exponentially in water for over a year. I change out the water weekly to keep them healthy.

I love these plants!!!
Some of the leaves on mine are a little crispy because my humidifier died, my house is extra dry without it and I haven’t gotten it replaced yet. But she has absolutely thrived since I put her in one of these terracotta self watering pots. I need to put her in the next size up pot before she gets too top heavy, but I’ve been procrastinating because I’m a little worried fresh soil and room for more roots will put her inna growth spurt and I’m not sure where ai will put her if she gets much bigger. She is over 3 feet tall now. I really struggled with her on and off until I put her in that self watering terracotta pot. She loves it
