Super easy hazel edging – you just need a source of hazel, like my lovely neighbour 🥹 We’d previously chatted about how much I liked watching the birds in this tree and how useful the hazel sticks were for the garden, and earlier in the month I had a knock on the door and he had bundled up all his cuttings for me to use – I honestly cried a little bit, it was so nice! 🤎

  1. Coppicing is becoming a lost art, so lovely of your neighbor to share with you and you sharing with us!
when we moved to our home we were sad to see some beautiful old grafted hazelnut trees had been cut down along the driveway. But they all came back from the root stock as coppice wood.
I've been using them for gardening, wandwood and many things ever since. Coppiced hazel is so wonderful!

  2. I used light green wine glass bottles in different heights as a border, put upside down with the lids on, so no water would freeze inside them, and found that the earth and plant growth next to it was Always one week ahead.

    It looked really nice, too…

Took some years and family help to get enough, though 😅
