For context this was the first cutting I ever planted and I put it in a pot bigger than it needed and I was wondering why Iβve seen 0 growth in the past year π looks like it put all of its energy into making some roots!
This has happened to a lot of mine in one gallon pots. Always wondering why they arenβt pushing more growth or staying hydrated, only to discover the roots are so abundant they are growing to the surface lol.

In my experience the cuttings spend the first year growing roots and start putting on new growth the second year. Why? I don’t know, it just my observations.

Happened to some of mine too, they all seem to have a yellowish pigmentation. Maybe its a nutrient deficiency they are trying to compensate.
Id like for an expert to chime in on this.

I actively seek this out. Strong roots means you can really push growth and helps promote wet/dry cycles

Roots like normal not crowded at all. No rings on the bottom

Seems like it depends on the cut. I had a godchaux that dropped like 2 good sized pups before any roots. Them big old logs take like a year before any growth but this fat scop log pupped in like month
When they finally do grow they really do take off though. Iβve had the opposite happen too. Iβve grafted onto unrooted pc cuttings and all the grafts pupped within a couple weeks but the rootstock took 4 months to root.
