We’re excited to share the Monroe County 4-H’s community garden accomplishments over the past two years we’ve been working! Over the past two years, our dedicated team of around seven members has produced an impressive 220-plus pounds of fresh produce.

This produce made its way to the community through Backpack Buddies and Circle of Care. This was all possible with the amazing work of the club members, Mrs. Rachel, our 4-H Agent, Mr. Luke, our ANR Agent, and Mr. Arthur Farr, a 4-H Volunteer, Master Gardener, and President of the Middle Georgia Beekeepers Association.

One of the garden’s most recent projects was the construction of a greenhouse, built as an Eagle Scout project. This addition has extended the growing season and allowed for even more crops to be harvested.

To continue supporting the garden’s growth, the Monroe County Extension/4-H Office is hosting a Vidalia Onion fundraiser. You can purchase these onions at the Extension/4-H Office at 484 Hwy 83 S, Forsyth, or by calling 478-994-7014. All proceeds will go towards funding club activities, including the community garden.

Now, are you interested in getting your hands dirty? The Green Thumb Club is open to all 4th – 12th grade students in Monroe County (public school, private school, or homeschool all are welcome). It meets bi-weekly on Thursdays during the school year and weekly throughout the summer to tend to the garden. If you would like to learn more about gardening and help support our community, contact the Extension/ 4-H Office today to sign up.
