Grass is never going to survive right at the base of those stairs because everyone pivots in that exact same spot. Get rid of that single tripping hazard of a stone immediately. You need a proper landing pad that spans wider than the stairs themselves so people feel comfortable stepping down and walking toward the driveway. Dig out that dead zone and put down a solid compacted gravel base then lay some large dimensional bluestone or grey concrete pavers to tie in with your porch decking. If you just drop pavers on top of the bare dirt they will sink and shift into a muddy mess after the first heavy rain.

Once you build out that landing pad you need to pull those black mulch beds forward to meet the edges of the new hardscape. If you leave narrow slivers of grass between the driveway the new walkway and the current beds you will be miserable every time you have to drag out the string trimmer. Let those evergreen shrubs frame the new entrance and use a creeping groundcover to soften the harsh lines where the stone meets the dirt.

Since you have a very specific color palette going with the grey siding and white trim you really want to get the stone color right. Take a picture of this exact angle and run it through the GardenDream web app. It lets you overlay different paver styles and bed layouts right onto your photo so you can figure out the perfect width and material before you blow your budget on a pallet of stone that clashes with your house.
