Hi all—-I started pepper seeds (bell and hot) a few weeks ago, and all was going well. All of a sudden though, most of them seemed to just dry and shrivel up. I kept them bottom watered. The only thing I can think of is that being 2-3 inches away from the shop lights (LED)—could the heat from the lights have done this? They are warm—and probably the top of the seed tray is in the mid 80 degree mark. 2 shop lights—5500 lumens each. Is that too powerful? Thanks. Gonna start a new round but don't want to make the same mistake. Thanks again.

Nope not too powerful as long as they sprouted under those lights. What does your soil consist of? Best guess is too many nutrients for baby plants
My guess is a watering issue. Too often or too little. The soil looks a bit dry.
I’ve seen many people put seeds in soil, then strictly utilize bottom watering and not enough that the soil where the seeds actually are get none of it. I bottom water after germination, but before and early on I use a spray bottle to keep the soil on top moist.
One thing I do, too, is soak seeds in water for a couple days before ever putting them in soil. I used to use the paper towel method but got tired of seeds sprouting INTO the towel.
are they on a heating pad? Also do you have the bottom under them?
