A dream cottage garden is possible for any home. Learn how to do this, as I transform an area using pots, recycled items, and plants in four minutes.
Looking to create a charming cottage garden effect without the traditional setting? This video shows you exactly “how to” achieve it using creative “container gardening” techniques. I’ll be focusing on imaginative “garden design” and “gardening ideas” to style your “home garden” into a picturesque retreat, perfect for any patio space.
Learn:
• How to create a cottage garden theme
• How to use a range of items to create characterful pots
• How to add height and structure in a small space
• Which cottage garden plants thrive in containers
• Why good drainage matters
You don’t need a thatched cottage, rose arches, or even traditional borders to achieve the cottage garden look. By using eclectic containers such as galvanised pots, old watering cans, barrels, wicker, terracotta, and even wheelbarrows, you can create a space full of character, height, and seasonal colour perfect for smaller gardens or front entrances.
I’ll show you how to use different container sizes and levels to add depth and interest, plus exactly which plants work best, including lavender, violas, verbena, echinacea, delphiniums, and of course, a classic rose.
This approach mixes flowers, herbs, fruit, and vegetables together for that authentic, cottage feel, a welcoming garden to greet you every time you come home.
Plants featured:
• Hydrangea paniculata
• Viola
• Coneflower (Echinacea)
• Delphinium
• English Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
• Verbena bonariensis
• Rose
• Flat leaf parsley
• Apple tree
• Petunia

Nice 😊❤
🩶 a friend has given me some flower seeds so will be getting some containers soon. Only one tidy shrub in the front slate bed so anything would be an improvement 🌹 to my new home.
Hello David thank you for your ideas 💡 very much enjoyed watching 😊
I go to his daughters school 😅
i have a cottage and I have lots of pots, they are so easy to manage. I wanted something a bit different. I have a dutch inspired front garden with dutch bulbs, herbs, and veggies and a dutch windmill. i use recycled chairs. sometimes you can make your front garden less generic and with more personality to your own interests.
Love a cottage garden ❤️
David, I have a muntjac problem, they eat most of my flowers and i don't like the idea of having chicken wire in my garden. Thanks.
