April 3, 2026

-8:00 pm
Come celebrate the arrival of spring with DC Natives (DCN) on April 3 at 6pm for a pet and child friendly gathering to build community, share small bites & drinks, and participate in a seed & plant swap at 2026’s inaugural First Flower Friday (FFF) social gathering! We’re kicking off this year’s FFF series of events in Brightwood at one of our most successful residential garden installations in recent years. Please register through the event link to get exact address and help DCN ensure there are enough refreshments for all attendees.
These monthly parties typically feature short talks by wildlife ecologists, partner organization or eco-friendly local startups. Unfortunately, the US Geological Survey bee ecologist we had on the docket had to cancel at the last minute, so we’ve created an special soil prep and planting demonstration. Guests will have an opportunity to (but no obligation!) to participate in a hands-on pollinator garden installation. April’s FFF event will be a unique opportunity for people unfamiliar with our work see our most experienced gardening volunteers in action.
DC residents will have an opportunity to apply to have free pollinator gardens installed in their yards or apartment balconies. Maryland and Virginia residents are very welcome, and will be provided with information about low cost resources available throughout the DMV for starting and maintaining healthy pollinator gardens.

DC Natives is a District of Columbia Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) & Chesapeake Bay Trust funded 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to building community and pollinator habitats in residential spaces across the District. We promote functional urban ecology by helping gardeners curate collections of site-specific perennials that provide stable support for a biodiverse mix of nectar-seeking, pollen-collecting, and foraging pollinators in a single garden.
