A Carytown storefront that spent the last decade pouring beer and wine will soon be serving coffees and pastries.
Brunchella Brunch & Coffee House is preparing to open in the former Garden Grove Brewing space at 3445 W. Cary St.
Behind Brunchella are married couple Joseph and Shaya Riad. They said Brunchella will be a counter-service cafe, offering American and Mediterranean-inspired brunch dishes as well as pastries, cakes and croissants.
The Riads said Brunchella will also have a full coffee bar serving beans sourced from Italy, as well as a drinks menu with matcha, mocktails, smoothies and teas.
Joseph, who’s leaving a career in engineering to open Brunchella, said he wanted to try something different with the restaurant. He said Brunchella will serve food until 3 p.m. daily, but stay open until 9 p.m. to encourage folks to use the cafe as a gathering place.
“We wanted to build a space where families, friends, and students can gather, relax, and genuinely enjoy their time,” Riad said in an email.
The Riads are currently renovating the space with plans for an April opening. Joseph said Brunchella will have a max occupancy of 83, plus patio seating out front.
The roughly 3,800-square-foot space came available last summer after Garden Grove closed, ending a decade-long run in Carytown.
Brunchella is set to be the second new cafe to debut in Carytown this year, joining Griffin Coffee & Bakery which opened in February. A new seafood market and restaurant is also in the works for the neighborhood.
