This is the “shit” corner of my yard… huge Chinese elm next door drops a million seeds every year and it’s a nightmare. Soil is super dry and gets barely any sun.. is there *anything* that’ll grow??
Things already are. It’s a shaded to semi shaded area. Put in a sprinkler system and pick plants suitable

I mean, there’s at least 3 plants there, so I guess the answer is yes? For real though, dry soil is an easy fix with retic, and you NEED to plant some stuff in there to outcompete the chinese elm.
Personally, I reckon that site has amazing potential as a native rainforest kind of vibe. I can imagine it now; Native palms, ferns and cycads (ones that deal with indirect sun), Some undergrowth plants to strangle out the chinese elm… I actually love that tree as a giant feature of your garden. Imagine a DIY wooden boardwalk leading to a little platform with a bench. Creepers and vines sprawling underneath. Theres heaps you could do here.

Yes. Put down 100mm mulch. Plant shade loving it tolerant plants. Think of environments that don’t get much sun and that’s what will grow there. Deep forest, rainforest, tropical species, ferns etc

Things will grow, your biggest battle will be controlling the Chinese elm seedlings with desirable plants around
Native dry rainforest species would be a good bed

Shade plants + a tree swing or park bench + some nice big boulders for the lizards to hide amongst.
