Beginner AF, I’m learning as I go. Wondering if these look okay— I’m specifically wondering if the one in the last two pics look healthy since that one looks so different from the other two. Any input is greatly appreciated 🌸

This is an automatic reminder regarding r/dahlias Rule 3:

When reasonable*, posters should make a good-faith effort to identify which variety/varieties are shown in their photo(s). If you don’t know for certain, please say so. Someone will usually know!

*Common-sense exceptions to this rule will be honored, such as if the photo does not contain a blossom, or if your photo contains large volumes (such as in wide field shots).

If you’ve already done this, thank you! No further action required.

If not, please add a reply to this comment and confirm if you know the name of your dahlia variety/varieties shown in the photo(s). Alternately, if you’re uncertain of the variety name(s), it’s ok to say that, too.

The soil looks too dry. Just my 2¢, I would replant in pots. Plastic bags can trap too much moisture and rot your tubers, even if they have holes poked in them. Otherwise they look like beginning dahlias, maybe a smidge on the small side. that’s not too big an issue especially if they’re planted shallow. The difference in color is probably just because it’s a different type of dahlia.

Basically they all look fine to me – a normal range of outcomes. The one in the last couple pictures just looks like it is taking a little longer and naturally has a bit more dark pigment. It looks to me like the first couple might have been pinched off. If so, it was a bit soon for that… you want several sets of fully developed leaves first. But they will be okay.

Personally, I don’t understand the point of the plastic bags at this stage. In some of the pictures I see some seedlings in proper pots with drainage holes. The dahlias would enjoy such kind treatment as well.

Almost looks like something is eating your dahlia leaves….
