The photos don’t do it justice. They are SO prolific and thriving back there. The urine has killed all of the grass back here, but the violets are loving it.

  1. What kind of soil do you have? I’d love to have this density. I have sandy soil. The violet tolerates it. Maybe I need to borrow your dog.

Free fertilizer from your dog I guess

Your dog is passing on their balanced diet. Literally. Also, they love disturbed soil where other plants can’t grow. And resilient to being stepped on. Perfect place for them

How do I tell the difference between the native and invasive ground violets? Mine look like these, some have paler flowers, but I’ve been under the impression they were weeds for years and have been painstakingly pulling them

I have a dog and have been trying to figure out a replacement for my backyard lawn. Definitely thinking violets might be part of the answer.

  7. I too have dense, thriving violets all over my yard.

I too have a dog that poops everywhere.

    You may be onto something.

Just like a portion of my yard growing up. Is it like an acidity thing?

I have some beautiful purple/green oxalis growing in my dogs spot. I wanted to transplant it then realized he’s the one keeping it going

Or could it be that your dog likes pooping where the violets are growing? Maybe the cause/effect is in the other direction. 😄
