This is the largest top cutting I’ve ever taken, and I’m honestly really happy with how it’s doing so far.

I pre-rooted it into leca about 5 weeks before actually cutting the stem, which I think made a big difference.

It’s now been ~2 months since the cut, and there’s only been some leaf curling and slight edge browning on the older leaves. Nothing major considering the size and leaf mass.

At this scale it doesn’t really behave like a typical cutting anymore. With multiple mature leaves and a thick stem, it seems to maintain a positive energy balance from the start. Instead of going through the usual stall phase, it just keeps pushing while the roots establish.

Currently growing in leca and moving into a much larger setup next.

Curious if anyone else here has pushed top cuttings to this size and where do you feel the limit is before things start going downhill?

  1. Nice. I have one maybe half the size or so. I just toss them in water and wait till they root a lot and then throw in soil. Has been working with smaller ones. I just cut this new one a few days ago.
