Is the tall grass Sedge? That shits my nemesis right now.

  2. You’ll need to provide more detailed photos with one type of grass shown in each for best results with this type of request

Mostly Bermuda with weeds, including st Augustine. St A is so thick in pic 2 that someone probably put down st A sod at some point

Yes tall grass in Bermuda is probably a sedge

Someone put down st Augustine sod at some point and you have probably volunteer Bermuda mixed in –

Try an app like “Picture This.” It has helped me a ton identifying most plants/grass types.

    Best of luck!

Looks like St Augustine and someone put down Bermuda or Zoysia at some point to try and fill it in. Personally I think St Augustine works way better in the Screwston area. I would try to help the St Augustine take it all over, maybe even put down At Augustine sod in some areas.

I live in Kansas… if those were my two options I’d choose Bermuda. I think I’ve heard st Augustine is popular in Florida but they probably get more rain than you. My buddy lives in Dallas and has Bermuda and doesn’t have a choice. Was told it’s all they can get to grow in his area. I am also aware some southern states consider Bermuda a weed, which is fair.

I choose Bermuda because it is more drought and heat tolerant and able to replenish itself. It’s more unsightly when it goes dormant but it’s green and decent as long as your neighbors don’t mind your Bermuda taking over whatever grass they have. If you have a bit of shade in your yard maybe you could try something else.

Bermuda is so much better than St Augustine. Water and fertilizer. Mow low and frequently if you want the Bermuda to take over.

Buddy, please resharpen your mower blades, get new ones or get them sharpened, looks like it’s ripping the grass and that makes it prone to catch diseases and harder for it to recover from a cut.

It’s St Augustine and Bermuda with some weeds mixed in. St Augustine is better in shade than Bermuda and should be cut taller. Bermuda is better in full sun than St Augustine and should be cut shorter. St Augustine needs more watering to stay green but still just an inch a week. What kind of shade you have should determine which one you keep.
