Building a retaining wall and did not expect this much root damage to these 60+ year old trees! Now I read that the rule of thumb is apparently 1' of clearance per 1" of tree trunk… Asking you arborists for thoughts – How bad is it? This is near Atlanta so winds can get strong in storms. Would rather not have to cut them down, but if unavoidable at this point, maybe I could just top them?
