First of all, I have no idea how that prayer plant (or whatever it is) came this far. I’m honestly surprised. It was originally a free cutting that I got from a local plant store… that I ended up propagating in a bong that wasn’t in use at the time 😆
It was moved around from pot to pot for a while before landing in this one. And when repotting, something I admittedly do too much, I noticed a little nub growing from the roots that ended up being a big ol leaf. Now, the leaves that come up and unfurl are big p h a t ones and have a very nice, deep violet. And… there’s currently 4 coming up. I also cut the original cutting off… if that makes sense. (picture 4)
Im scared n happy to see what happens doe
That monstera is the first houseplant I uh… collected I guess (not a big collection so don’t ask). I found it in a super nice clay pot next to a dumpster in my apartment complex. Someone had left it out- it was dry, yellowing some, but mostly green.
There was one little leaf, but because I had no idea what I was doing I didn’t know what it was, or how to save it. So, to the local plant shop I go. I showed an employee a picture of what I’d found in hopes of good advice. He explained to me what nodes are and how I should cut this thing up and propagate it in water. BRO. IT. WORKED.
I was amazed when the first leaf popped out of a cutting. I have a lot of pictures of this thing too, but I can’t find em! You can see that some of those leaves are pretty messed up though.
I was not, and am not a patient person. But that’s why I like these plants, they teach me to leave shit alone and let it… unfurl. The first leaf, smallest, is messed up because I tried to “help it unfurl” which is… not what you’re supposed to do lol.
Second leaf MY ROOMMATES CAT ATE.
Theres more to it though. I thought about cutting it off and leaving it to grow another leaf, but then I thought about 5 years from now. I’m going to want that leaf to remind me of this cat, which I love. So I left it.
Next leaf is boring, I don’t remember what was going on to be honest. It was big though, I remember being excited to see an unharmed leaf.
ALRIGHT NOW THE BIG MAMA. I left for spring break and after not watering this thing for a week, this is what I came back to. No lights other than the window either which is nuts (it was facing the window).
I am starting to really connect with these plants and I don’t mind that. They really do mean a lot to me and I hope they keep growing with me. ✌🏻
