For climate reference, I live in Upstate NY. I was reading through my lease earlier and it states that I am in charge of my landscaping, flower beds, mowing, weeding, etc. I don’t know what these dead tree-like plants are in the first photo, I believe someone previously planted tulips around the deck (second photo) which I plan to keep so long as I can maintain them. I’m unsure what the tree is in the fourth photo but i’m not a fan of it currently. Looking for advice on how to transform this into something more aesthetically pleasing. S.O.S

That’s insane that you’re in charge of your own landscaping honestly, I would keep it really simple. First look into your zoning (chat gpt can help) and the research what flowers grow best in that zone. Start there first. I would keep it super simple as you’re renting and should be putting your money into saving for your forever home.
Have you seen it grown out? There are a few things there worth saving.
Also, the lease probably means to more the lawn, shovel your own snow, and keep what’s there neat.
