You want to use a sterile seed starting mix indoors. Most bagged seed starting mixes and potting mixes are garbage as they are filled with woody material. You can make the best mix ever by using two off the shelf products. Its cheaper than anything you can buy as a single product and it is better quality than anything I have seen.

    Actually, if you go outside and dig a whole and get you like a five pound bucket of your dirt, pick all the weeds in your yard put that in another bucket with a lid. Use another bucket, but the weeds and the empty bucket or water in it. Let it sour until it smells like a septic tank. And then new year's one part, one cup per 5 gallons of water, stop using store-bought, mix for your plants. It is not healthy for you. It looks healthy for the plant. But the plant will not be healthy for you to eat. Use organic it means the way your grandma did. She didn't buy soil, she used. What was in her yard? And I'm a grandma, my grandma, did it. My great grandma. Did it so buying premixed stuff from the grocery store? You're just setting yourself up for failure, meaning your health
