Hello! I was gifted a rose and I had set it in a vase with some water, inevitably the rose wilted but I had noticed there were some leaves starting to grow from it! So I was curious to see if there’s a way I can plant it (outside of the vase) as well I’m wondering if it’s just leaves sprouting or if there could be a new rose??
TIA <3

Those little leaves are a good sign it’s still alive, but roses from bouquets usually don’t root easily like that. You could try cutting just below a node and sticking it in soil or water, but it’s kinda hit or miss depending on the stem maturity and how long it’s been cut. The combo of new leaf growth + wilting flower happens a lot with cut roses, they’ll push a bit of life before fading out!
Sorr i dont know about rozes
I would try cut the big on and just try?
If it starts to put down roots then absolutely. If not then it is probably just generating from excess energy stored in the stem.
Keep us updated! I’d love to know if this pops off!
That’s how I grew a whole rosebush- plant it!
You’ll want to cut the part of the stem that’s dying off. The cut should be right above the next axillary bud. Place the cane into some wet dirt and cover it with a water bottle/soda bottle and wait a few weeks. You typically want to do this before the flower opens up but it’s still possible after blooming albeit the rates will be lower. If you want a higher chance of success you can build a aeroponic cloner. That cloner gives me a 100% success rate with roses.
It won’t root while there’s a flower, its energy is focused on seed production right now. I would take off the stem above the new leaf (hang it upside down to dry the flower upright). Then that new leaf might produce enough energy for roots!
Change the water every couple of days. Fresh water is good, but when it hangs around too long, organic material like the cut stem start to rot, which prevents roots.
If its starting to rot (get soft) you can arrest that by adding a little hydrogen peroxide to the fresh water, once is enough. Hydrogen peroxide isnt poisonous, but it can irritate a plant if used too frequently, just like on us.
