A gardener has swapped the trowel for the typewriter.
Patrick Ffrench, from Hereford, has published a science fiction novel, End of the Fifth Sun.
The book is now available on Amazon UK through Kindle Books.
Mr Ffrench said: “I’ve always dabbled in writing and song-writing.
“It’s been a source of enjoyment throughout my life.”
The story follows four young friends who become trapped in cyberspace while using a prototype virtual reality computer.
A mentor figure named Agent Berengeur offers to help them return home if they collect souvenirs from different eras of mythology and history.
Their journey takes them through Greek mythology, Aztec Central America, Ancient China, and from the hands of the Norse God of Thunder.
Mr Ffrench said: “The journey that unfolds ahead of the young adventurers is exciting yet dangerous as they try to make sense of their predicament and work out a plan to escape from the virtual world.
“I’m happy with how it has worked out and hopefully there are enough twists and turns to keep the reader glued.”
