Hi all. You v helpfully answered my Qs about artificial grass recently. Now I’m back with another conundrum.
I’m sick of trying to recover my lawn every spring. It gets high traffic from kids and dogs; we are showered with pine needles every winter which helps kills any grass. It just looks like a mud pit every winter and takes me such effort to get it looking vaguely green for summer (my father would laugh if I called it grass, more weeds than anything).
I need this area to be easy maintenance. 4 kids and 2 dogs. I’m going to put a large metal monkey bars on the left here and we have the in ground trampoline on the right.
I’m tempted just to barkchip the whole thing. But I worry (a) dogs will eat it/bring it inside; and (b) hard to clean up dog poo when it blends in with the brown bark.
The alternative is full artificial grass agin which will cost me €1500 plus all the prep work. And I know you all hate it here.
Someone said do a clover mix grass but I need this presentable in 4 weeks for a confirmation party so I don’t have time for grown.
Serious suggestions please. I’m not green fingered enough to maintain a beautiful lawn, I need something practical for my family.

Honestly, it sounds like you need to book a consult with a landscape designer/architect. They’re the people best suited for this. Consults aren’t very expensive at all & you’re not locked into proceeding with a contract or design.
Bark chip does get stuck to everything. If my son sits down in it at the playground I’m finding it in his shoes and in his pants and all once we’re home.
I’ve heard the fake grass can get very hot when it’s hot out, and it does wear down quickly.
If you lay rolls of lawn it probably won’t last very long with so much traffic but it would look nice for a little while.
I know what you mean about all the mud during the winter. It’s such a pain!
I’ve just embraced the weeds myself. I keep nettles at bay but otherwise I’m happy anything grows so it stops the much.
Sorry I’ve no advice, just solidarity. Best of luck!
Honestly I think astro is the way to go if this is a high traffic area with kids and dogs. You can always put in lots of pots with plants and flowers around . I know it’s not liked generally but you need to do what works for you especially if you are needing it fixed up in a hurry.
Gravel? You could also plant through it if you ever wanted to in the future
