It's original owner said it would get tossed if I didn't want it, so of course I had to take it. It's inside a mud room, but before I bring it in, is it safe for cats and small kids? Not that either gobble up my houseplants regularly, but the cats sniff my plants and the child likes watering them with me, so I would like to know if this plant is safe or not. Thank you.

This is definitely an orchid, I’m not sure if they’re safe for pets or kids though. You’d have to google it.

Watch missorchidgirl on YouTube. Her videos are very helpful.

Phalaenopsis orchid 😄 probably came from a grocery store. Read up on them but #1 rule don’t get water in the leaf crevices #2 don’t water with Just ice.

Phalenopsis orchid. Safe for your family and pets.

Definitely an orchid. Looks healthy even though there are no flowers. Hopefully that will change by spring/summer 🥹

    Definitely grocery store type orchid.

They’re kind of my go-to if I want to buy someone flowers. Their flowers last longer than cut flowers for the same price, and if they want to try, they’re not that hard to keep so long as you do a little reading on them (ie: they grow in tropical climates so ice cubes are something they’d consider a little rude if they had a brain).

Orchids are safe around mouthy kids and pets, as long as theres no pesticides on it.

Thank you everyone. I’ve never had an orchid before so I will research thoroughly how to care for it. I appreciate everyone’s recommendations on where to start. It will be very loved in my home 💙
