Hello fellow monstera enthusiasts, I was wondering if some of you might have some experience with switching bigger older plants from soil to a self watering pot. My monstera is two years old now, I grew her from a big cutting, and I’ve had her in soil so far. But because of the weight of the leaves with her size, and because it’s easier to manage the watering, I was thinking of switching her to a self watering pot with a mineral substrate like Lechuza Pon (Zeolite, Pumice, Lava rock). I am a gardener myself but this monstera is my biggest joy and my baby and I’m really afraid to shock her too much with switching her now, so I wanted to get some advice from people who might have had a previous experience with this topic. Currently her substrate mix is perlite, pine bark and some soil for houseplants. And she is pushing out a new leaf so I will wait until that is done anyways. Already had a bad experience where I repotted her while she was pushing a new leaf and then it didn’t unfurl but rotted away..

No advice but your monstera is gorgeous 😍 mine looks similar to you and it’s in soil too
It may be easier to chop and prop part of her into a hydro or semi hydro set up. I’ve seen transitions from soil done before but not specifically for a plant this size. I’m working on a Thai half this size and it is MAD at me. If it continues to struggle for much longer I’m going to pivot to putting it in water to have roots adapt better and put it back in leca and pumice once it’s stabilized more. The Leca Queen long method video may be useful to you but you’d likely want to adapt it to make it fit your situation. I plan to adapt her approach by adding an airstone if the roots keep trying to die on me.
THATS A THICK ASS BOI
