Most people think that the growing season starts when the weather has warmed up, but in fact there are certain promising crops that are in fact better if started early. In this week’s episode, Ben demonstrates how to get those precious early harvests from some of everyone’s favorite crops.

18c in southeast England on Wednesday. I think I’ll take a chance and start Charlotte potatoes outside in allotment bed.
Can you make your videos into an audio/podcast form? I love your stuff and it would be great to listen to these on the go.

Ooh that mandolin action was making me twitch! I like my kohlrabi without human flesh!😱
My mom made Kohlrabi always with a béchamel sauce and lots of dill
I used a pair of tweezers to pick up my tomatoe seeds, it works for me Ben..
Great video thanks .
Thank you, iv finally got a garden big enough to grow my own veggies and im still pretty new. This is my first proper year of growing and im excited. Your videos are brilliant, clear and informative thank you so much!
What is the sprayer thing that is used for watering the seeds?
Please use the correct image for potato flowers in your video, you showed stock photo of an eggplant at 4:04 not a potato flowers. While they are all nightshades, it is not a potato flower. As an expert gardener I am sure you know this.
I find it interesting how early you Brits seed tomatoes, I live in Tacoma, WA in the PNW of the USA, zone 8b–similar to the climate in some parts of the UK but I have found that it stays much too cold and wet in this climate to seed tomatoes in early March, I have decided to wait until early April to plant mine.
Oh no where's Rosie? 😢❤️🩹
If the weather channel is correct TONIGHT is my last frost/ freeze date this spring!!!
A potato tip. If your spuds are unfortunate enough to get nobbled by frost, dont despair but just leave them and they will grow back. I once had a crop that was nobbled twice by frost but I still got a crop, delayed by a few weeks though.
I always love the cheery attitude of Grow Veg and being in FL has given me a head start on setting up my garden. I'm going heavy on sweet potatoes for the spuds and the leaves which have lots of nutrients. I had forgotten about doing onions so I'll do my sets there as well. Happy gardening!!
So funny to hear about Kohl Rabi to be weird vegetable. Everbody here in Czechia know this plant and we call it "Kedlubna". 😇
I miss gardening with my grandpa and doing it on my own tends to make memories come back which is grand until its overwhelming.
Having your video's go in the background as I toil away is great and informative. My grandpa would have loved your content! I sure do ❤
I thought peas couldn't be started as seedlings and the peas shown in the video are HUGE!? Lol.
I have found them in a supermarket here in southern Spain,
I live in windy Cornwall, do you have any advice on wind proof coverings for frost protection?
If you love eating a tomato directly that much then you would love magic mushrooms
I skipped through some of the video, but did you explain to viewers about determinate and inderterminate potato types? The type of potato determines how you should plant them and whether you should sure up, or layer them.
This year I wanted to try sowing from last years remaining potatoes to save money. But while they're sprouting nicely, they're all rather soft, not like the commercial seed potatoes. Do you know if this will effect the growth of the tubers?
Tomatoes !!! Again…..thats all we hear….tomatoes are not a food ….
I thought you were using the snail method this year>
So if i don't do that i'm not smart ?
Hi, love your videos! Could you tell me can I use cloth grow bags/ pots for potatoes? I am in the the states , New Rngland.
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you sow all those seeds and potatoes ready to plant out. I find your video very helpful and informative too. Take care too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Kohl rabi i like to start all 2 weeks one of the best fresh crops
Cannot wait to get started! Thanks much for this.
Nice video. I find it interesting that kohlrabi is hardly known where you are. Here, you can get it in every supermarket.
Absolutely love watching this channel Ben loves his connection with the earth..he is a tonic ❤
This brings me Marie Kondo-level joy!
I germinate my warm season seeds in my airing cupboard.
When I saw the corn seed on the table I thought that's a bit too early to sow here in the UK!
Here on Canada's Atlantic coast, March means April.
Hi Ben, another great video. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
you could top your potatoes in containers with straw, to prevent against frost.
Love these videos, so easy to watch! What's the watering spray container called please?
What compost are you using for the pea seeds? It has white specs in it, is that Pearlite or something different?
I truly hope you are as nice as you seem! Thnx!
Can you use kohi rabi like you would cabbages?
Here in Cologne, Kohlrabi is most often served with a white roux. Cut them up like french fries, boil al dente. Prepare the roux and add some of the cooking water, season with salt, pepper and nutmeg, add kohlrabi. Ah, childhood 🙂
