I've had this little guy for almost a year now and it's been slowly growing larger in all directions until this last week, where this sprout SHOT up. Does he need more light? This is a south facing window and I have supplemental grow lights for winter when the sunny hours are short, so I would be surprised if that was the case. I've never had this happen with any of my other succulents before they just get bushier and wider.

  1. That is a sempervium about to bloom. The bad news- sempervium are monocarpic; they bloom once, then die. The good news- they usually put off a bunch of babies before they go.

When it’s up like that it’s happy 😬

Sempervivums are very “don’t cry because it’s over smile that it happened”

  4. Only the blooming rosette will die. The plant will continue living through the second non-blooming rosette and any new offsets it puts out. Just enjoy the flowers and let it do its thing 😊

Honestly keeping a sempervivum alive indoors, never mind with a bloom, is quite an accomplishment.
