Was mowing my lawn last Saturday and noticed about a half dozen of these stalk-like things growing throughout my yard. They are fairly firm to the touch. I mowed over some and was able to hand pull some as well.

Got any neighbors with bamboo? Good luck.

Take a shovel and dig down deep around both of these pretending they are one plant. Throw it all away and put in new dirt. 🙂 Yes the nuclear option is the correct one with invasive bamboo.

You can also cover the area with plastic this year, which will nuke your lawn too. Bamboo is no joke.

  3. The good news is that the new owners will have to deal with it.

    Grab some glyphosate.

    Cut culms.

    *Immediately* douse them in glyphosate.

Repeat until they stop coming back.

Geberal question: Can’t bamboo just be killed by directly applying something like glyphosate to the shoots in your own yard?

I’m not saying it’s worth the argument with the neighbor, but I’m curious.

I had a neighbor who drove a sheet of medal 6 feet down at the base of his fence and occasionally one would still come through

  7. Oh boy I moved into a yard that had bamboo and it’s a long battle.

If you want to be victorious, you either need to dig the root ball up and put up a barrier or cut them down once they get to the height in the picture.

If you let them grow a little bit, they will use all the energy to shoot up and then won’t have any energy left to find another path. This can occur for 3-4 years so you have to be really diligent about your efforts. They normally get most of their growth a few days after it rains.

The only other answer is to get the proper material for a barrier in the ground to keep bamboo out of your yard if it’s from the neighbor. If you have any root balls in your yard already, you will want to dig them up as well.
