I’M OPENING my garden on Saturday May 30 from 10 AM to 4 PM as part of a weekend of events in my Hudson Valley, N.Y., community, that also includes the spectacular garden of Peter Bevacqua and Stephen King (above) nearby, a plant sale by Broken Arrow Nursery, and more. Tickets are on sale now (links at the bottom of the page); each of the last several years they’ve sold out, so we’ve upped the numbers a bit but….don’t dally!

Don’t miss a chance to see Peter and Stephen’s in Claverack, N.Y., a 2.5-acre series of visual experiences, from formal to wildish, with the backdrop of the garden’s dramatic topiary hedging. Also open 10-4 Saturday the 30th.

Plus, at their place all day, an “Ask the Arborist” booth will be staffed by Green Cross arborists, where their experts will be sharing interactive education on invasive pests and diseases affecting our region. Bring your questions about tree and shrub problems (bring a photo if you like), pruning, invasive species, recommended trees, or tree biology.

Here all day at my Copake Falls garden (above) with a truckload of irresistible botanical goodies will be Broken Arrow Nursery. They will be accepting advance phone orders, too, until Wednesday, May 27, if there is something special you simply must have. Their website; phone is (203) 288-1026. Regular nursery hours resume April 1, if you need a phone consultation, or email meantime to sales [at] brokenarrownursery [dot] com.

Ours are just a couple of the events that are part of The Workshop Experience Weekend, May 30-31, 2026.

These open gardens are benefit events: All ticket sales from mine will be donated to two local nonprofits I love: the Hawthorne Valley Farmscape Ecology Program in nearby Ghent, N.Y., and Turtle Tree Seed at Camphill Village in Copake. Proceeds from the Bevacqua-King garden tickets will benefit the Claverack Free Library, and Columbia Kitchen.
