Duluth Depot hosts annual Spring Gardening Extravaganza

Northlanders gathered at the Duluth Depot for the Spring Gardening Extravaganza as planting season approaches.

This year’s event focused on “The Great Northern Gardener: Gardening for the Body Mind and Spirit.” New programs included disease resistant tomatoes, biochar and gardening, fundamentals of landscape design and expert advice on developing landscape plans.

Organizers have noticed some specific interests among attendees.

“there’s a mix of topics and interests but it seems like this year people are very concerned about their diets and about the gut microbiome and we’re seeing a lot of interest in fruits and vegetables,” an organizer said.

Those interested in planting flowers can attend the Spring Gardening Spectacular on Wednesday, March 25 at the Mountain Iron Community Center.
