The trick I use is simple animal psychology.
I know they want grain. I know they crave feed. But I had to make them this crazy over grain by barely giving them any. To me, there's nothing wrong with only letting your goats and sheep eat grass for the most part. In my opinion, that's what they're supposed to eat. If you got enough land, why not?
I use feed to train them. I say the target word and move around without giving it to them immediately. I make them a little desperate for it and make them beg and then I keep saying the target word. Then I give it to them. This takes weeks, sometimes months for particularly stubborn animals but all of mine got it down.
Now, I don't even need grain as an automatic reward when I call for them. This was when I got my new goats. Two of the females, Truffle and Zahari, were escape artists who escaped their last owner so many times that this was part of the reason that he sold them to me. I'm like an animal whisperer. I don't know how I do it sometimes but they listen to me.
Except for the ram and the billy goat because all they do is fight each other like it's street fighter.
