Located in Brisbane. This vine is growing up multiple branches of a large old Jacaranda tree. Is this a harmful vine? Any recommendations for removing it?

Looks like a pothos (ubiquitous as indoor plants). They get absolutely massive outdoors. They can be a real nuisance but on a tree that size I don’t think it’s as much of an issue.

I had one on a huge tree in Darwin. The tree got struck by lightning and the vine was shredded in pieces on the ground but I think it saved the tree

Theres an absolutely stunning example of this in Montville, sunshine coast.

It’s a mature Epipremnum Pinnatum (pothos). Considered an invasive weed in Australia but highly sought after as an indoor plant, especially when that big!! It won’t hurt your tree.

I don’t know if it’s technically classed as a priority weed in Aus but it’s definitely got the ability to smother native plants and areas if it were to escape into bush. So contrary to what others have said they indeed can damage host trees by smothering them. It’s a huge problem in many parts of the world and I would personally kill it asap. It’s poisonous to humans and pets if they eat it. The problem is that it can reproduce vegetatively so fragments can break off and spread if you’re removing it by hand. I would cut stems and dip them in glyphosate for a few minutes and repeat every few months monitoring progress of its demise. A pothos that big will take a long time to kill.
