JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. – The Rogue Gardeners of Josephine County are gardening to combat local food insecurity.
They kicked off their 2026 ‘Plant a Row’ campaign on Thursday by planting 18 beds of plant starts.
Since 2018 these local gardeners have been planting fresh fruit and vegetables for people in need throughout Josephine County. They say last year’s gardening efforts helped raise over 25,000 pounds of produce, which was distributed to the ROC Food Pantry.
On Thursday they planted plant starts at Gospel Rescue Mission, whose residents will then maintain the gardens throughout the summer.
“Publications all the time about people are deprived of food. And so, we got together. Instead of talking about it, we said, let’s get our hands in the dirt and do something about it. So that’s how we started,” said John Farias, Chairman of the Rogue Gardeners of Josephine County.
the rogue gardeners at Josephine County supports around seven community gardens, including Grange Co-Op, Foundry Village, the Gospel Rescue Mission and more.
