Hey y’all — Chip Jones here, The Preppy Gardener, and today I thought I’d do something a little different and bring you along with me to work at Sanders Nursery here in northeast Oklahoma. 🌿
It’s an early spring morning, and this is one of my favorite times of year at the garden center. Everything is just starting to wake up — the grow houses are filling with color, new plants are arriving daily, and gardeners everywhere are getting ready for the season ahead.
In this episode, I’ll take you behind the scenes for a typical morning with me at the nursery. We’ll walk through some of the beautiful displays the team has been creating, stop by the grow houses to see what’s coming along for the spring season, and talk about a few plants I’m especially excited to grow this year at Okarga Farms.
One of those is a gorgeous Super Petunia Blue Tiara, by @ProvenWinnersYouTube, which I’m planning to use around the front of the house this year. I’m really leaning into a color palette of blues, purples, and lime green, and I think it’s going to look fantastic once everything starts filling in.
Later in the morning, I also share one of the projects I love most — designing custom containers for customers. Today I’m creating a pair of Easter-themed patio planters featuring beautiful Snow Fountain weeping cherry trees, bright tangerine nemesia, soft white lobelia, and a cascading Silver Falls dichondra for contrast.
And since the customer mentioned she was planning an Easter table with a carrot theme… well, you know I couldn’t resist adding a fun little surprise to the containers to tie everything together.
Spring is such an exciting time in the garden world, and I always enjoy sharing a little glimpse of what happens here at the nursery during the busiest season of the year.
