Not sure what this dirt was, but this is the third year nothing will grow in this bed. Yes, you see 2-3 marigolds (from a whole package of seed), and some herb that is trying to stay alive. I moved the 3 peppers (one too far gone) to another, safer bed, as each 4” plant cost money.
Last year, we got a couple yellow squash out of 4 plants. The year before, each tomato seedling shriveled and died. I asked fella to dig out the dirt and fill up some holes in the yard. Done with the devil bed!!!

Have you ever added compost to the soil?
You have to condition shitty soil. Compost. Nutrients. Ect. As soon as you get the right combination you will have some luck.
I bet if you fill the bed to the rim with compost,
plants will thrive in it this season..
Might be worth getting some soil samples shipped off to get a good idea of what you’re lacking. Could be pH imbalance, nutrient deficiency, lots of issues a quick soil test will answer.
have you tried mulching the bejesus out of it?
I had an experience like that several years ago with Kellogg’s raised bed mix. That stuff was the kiss of death!
