Finally had a chance to box up this Yamadori European Hornbeam. Collected February 2023, didn't want to stress it too much, so left much of the field soil intact and didn't go at the roots.

Put it into a box over the weekend and gave it a proper root prune and cleared the majority of field soil (lots of clay).

Next step is to guide wire some of the branches down and a bit more horizontal (particularly the branch half way up the trunk on the right) and let the new leader grow.

    Looks good. I’m surprised you haven’t carved back the top yet. All that growth in the leader could have been used to start healing over the scar.
