I like 2 because of the end of the cutting rots instead of roots I still have space before the node to cut it off and keep trying

I’d go for 1 and let the bottom continue from that very exposed node.

1. So the node is deeper in soil.
2. So you don’t leave a big stub
Then discard the remaining part

1… it’s in between the node but above that activation point which will allow it to activate with the roots blow it.
And the above section, as a top cutting, can use the roots that will come from that above node.
