Violets are not only beautiful, but a great source of nutrients! They contain vitamins A, C and E. Both the blooms and leaves are edible. I love making a soothing violet tea when there’s sickness in the household. It serves to help as a decongestant as well as give sore throat relief. If you follow my link in the video, you’ll head to my full length video in which I forage for the violets, make violet jelly, and make violet tea. During cough, cold and flu season, it’s wonderful that the violets have started blooming and we can take advantage of using them! Just make sure to forage for violets in a place that has not been sprayed by chemicals. Enjoy the violet season!

Welcome to Joyful Homestead! We’re Dan and Heidi, and it’s our passion to live as independently as we can on our land, grow and preserve much of our own food, raise productive chickens, and make our own items from nature such as teas and salves that enhance our health. Our second passion is to teach people what we’ve learned in each of these categories! Come learn along with us!
