im very new to monsteras / plants in general. my friend has this beautiful monstera in her office that is thriving and she offered to bring me two clippings. these two were clipped at the same time, sat in water for the same amount of time, and potted at the same time. the one seems to be doing way better than the other.

i read another post somewhere that after potting, if leaves turn yellow, sometimes you just have to give it some time to ride it out. however, ive noticed the tips started turning brown and dry so now im worried she really needs help.

any suggestions here?? 😭 im scared of changing anything without asking for help first.

Yellow areas won’t turn green again.. let it decide how much it wants to yellow and fall off – don’t pick it off.

    1) Monstera like pretty direct light, with their big leaves facing the window. I keep mine directly in the window or in front of a grow light.

    2) You need to gently remove it from the soil, and replant in a plastic draining container, then place back inside the decorative pot. The water has no where to go and rots things at the bottom of the pot with no air flow. They like to be dry, watered every 1-2 weeks

Those are the basic steps – she will surely improve!

Were those cuttings placed directly into potting mix? Do those cuttings have nodes? Do those cuttings have secondary roots?

Pot is way too big! Monsteras love to be root bound. Also they like junky soil.

It also looks like it may be potted too deeply in the dirt. Can you post a picture of where it comes out of the soil?

do you know anything about moss poles or any kind of growth supports? its ok if you dont, being new can be kinda overwhelming

The main thing I’m noticing is that pot has no water collection tray, so I’m guessing it doesn’t have a drainage hole which is a problem. Yellow leaves on plants are often from overwatering or water not draining enough. Also, make sure it’s getting lots of light (grow lights are an option if there’s not much sunlight). I’ve tested the limits of that with mine and haven’t found one they really love a lot of bright light
