I have this tiny space between my house and walkway that regularly gets weedy and gross. So I'm looking for something I can plant there, that will crowd out the grass and sow thistle, and won't spill to much into my path. The rub, is that this is a southwest corner of my house that gets absolutely brutal sun in the summers… no shade. I am in Texas, zone 8b.
Any recommendations?
Creeping phlox seems promising, though I'm uncertain if it's up to the heat. Black eyed Susan looks up to the heat, but looks like it'll get to big.
Thanks

Looks to be a good spot for Lantana.
I’ll bet Gazanias would like it there and make you smile every time you see them.
I’m not in your zone, but maybe nandina. It’s up to the sun where I live, but not sure about yours. Just don’t shear it if you want it to look nice. Cass Turnbull with Plant Amnesty has good pruning instructions online.
Portulaca loves abuse.
Dig out the soil about 4” deep, put down a layer of landscape fabric and fill with 2” washed stone. This gives the water from the downspout a place to drain without displacing the soil. *note- this is the only type of situation I would use the fabric.
Then set up a planter -something narrow, more upright and fill with annuals or the like.
