If you are looking for ways to get your family into the outdoors for a springtime stroll in the sunshine, then these “idyllic haven” gardens may be for you.

The Gardens of Easton Lodge is situated near the lovely town of Great Dunmow in Essex. The gardens, which will be reopened to visitors soon on April 2, in perfect time for the Easter holidays, have a long-filled history dating back to Tudor times.

Easton Lodge gardens is Grade II listed which just adds to the history and atmosphere visitors can walk amongst.

The gardens, redesigned in 1902, showcases the Edwardian garden designer, Harold Peto’s grand and colourful Italian garden and treehouse.

Peto’s treehouse, which sits on stilts around an original oak tree, is available for visitors to climb up and appreciate the panoramic views from above.

Views extend down the lime avenue with a host of gorgeous daffodils in the spring, along with the enriched smell of lime blossoms, particularly in the summer.

The Gardens of Easton Lodge describe their setting as an “idyllic haven” that looks “beautiful in all seasons” of the year.

Within the grounds, visitors can find a World War II Memorial garden as well as a display of historical photos, documents, and other intriguing artefacts.

Families can spend the day taking in the scenery, going for a leisurely stroll and then end up at Daisy’s Café where you can indulge in some refreshments alongside some deliciously delightful home-made cakes.

Their main open season this year runs from April to October, and they have open days on Thursday’s throughout this season which are open from 11am until 3pm. They also have open days on select Sundays.

The entry fee for an adult ticket is £5.50, and children under 16-years-old can enter for free. On Sundays, admission costs £7.50 for adults on the gate or £6 for those who book tickets in advance.

For families who would like to spend the day here, you can also bring a picnic to sit and enjoy amongst the scenic surroundings.
