Hi everyone!

I currently have two moss poles, a Monstera adansonii and a Monstera deliciosa, but I feel their substrate is getting too wet because the moss pole drains into the substrate, keeping everything very moist.

These pots with moss poles have been planted for a week, so I wanted to know if I should perhaps change the substrate or something like that.

I'm using this substrate:

1 part black peat moss

1 part perlite

1 part orchid bark

2 parts coconut chips

I'm thinking of changing to something like this:

1/2 part black peat moss

1 part perlite

1 part carbonized rice husk

2 parts coconut chips

2 parts orchid bark

Another thing that bothers me is that all the black peat moss comes out at the bottom of the pot. What could I use at the bottom to prevent it all from coming out?

Thank you for your help. 🙂

(Sorry for the HUGE post).

  1. A lot smaller pot, or go semihydro. Also water the poles when they are slightly moist with right amount of water, less spillage.

Sydney Plant Guy on youtube has great videos covering this exact question, highly recommend!
