Hello, Our neighbours windows look over this fence and into our living and dining rooms. I’m trying to come up with some privacy ideas that don’t involve fence extensions. I also can’t plant trees because m the small garden Ben due to an easement.

I’m winding whether a planter box/raised garden bed with some kind of tall growing plants could achieve this, but I’m concerned it might look bad.

If anyone had any creative ideas I’m all ears!

Put up a freestanding trellis close to the fence and grow a climber. It’s not a tree so should be fine to be planted in the easement.

Put one of those netted trampolines in your yard. This will also act as a privacy screen, and allow you to look further over their fence while jumping if you need.

There was a post the other day about bamboo in pots

Serious idea: rules are only rules when someone is willing to enforce them. Speak to neighbours and see if they are okay with you putting up a privacy screen. There’s a good chance they’ll say yes. Or if you get along with them put up something cheap and easy to take down without damaging the existing fence and hope they don’t complain. Most people are reasonable. My neighbour just unilaterally extended the fence between our properties beyond council rules without permission from me or council. I know because he came to see me after the fact. Luckily for him I actually was glad to see it go up. So long as neither of us told the council it can stay up. See what you can get away with. Otherwise put up privacy screens as close to the easement as you can without blocking it I guess

Plants in pots would be a good alternative to line against your fence on the deck there.

Look into Tiger Grass, will give you a bamboo like effect, is quick growing but without the problems of bamboo.

Its pretty hardy, trim it down yearly to get fresh foliage. In a raised bed it would look pretty good.

    Good luck

What about a mural on the fence? There’s tons of artists doing them these days and they’re gorgeous! Can get a design that suits you

A few big pots with plants, you can move if needed and they won’t damage fences/pipes etc. The bigger the pots, the less watering frequency and the bigger the plants can grow. All the best

Might get downvoted because of the tight space, but… Lilly pillies.
I have a couple of them in a space very similar to this, they haven’t caused any issues, grew several metres tall, provide fruit every year and smell amazing when trimming.

You can plant pencil pines in the small area in front of the fence.

In terms of climbers I’ve been loving the pandorea, so long as it’s watered regularly for at least a couple of weeks it grows like crazy whilst still being an aussie native
