Maple producers explain process March 8 during Maple Taste & Tour
Area maple producers open their sugar camps to visitors who want to see how maple syrup is made March 8 during the annual Maple Taste & Tour.
The course is open to low-income adults and community members in Somerset County.Sessions will cover topics from building healthy soil to harvesting produce.
Somerset County Penn State Extension Master Gardeners will be providing a free six-week course for those interested in learning how to grow their own vegetables.
The sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Confluence Community Center, 711 Logan Place, Confluence. The course is open to adult participants living on low incomes and community members. The six sessions will be held on Wednesdays – April 15, April 22, April 29, May 6, May 13 and May 20.
Topics will include learning how to build healthy soil, planning your growing space, choosing which crops to grow, caring for your garden, and harvesting your bounty. This is the third year that the course has been offered to county residents.
“The course has been a great way for new gardeners to get started and for experienced gardeners to gain new insights,” said “Seed to Supper” presenter and Master Gardener the Rev. Ed DeVore. “The sessions have been well-received in the past two years by folks in Salisbury and Village Way, Somerset. We are working to reach out to all areas of the county to help work on alleviating food insecurity issues for families.”
