How to prevent water from running off on a sloped garden.

Use a 20-30cm diameter pot with the bottom cut out.

Set it into the ground around the vegetable plant and add mulch.

This technique prevents water runoff on a sloped garden,

  1. I use both earth and pieces of wood, depending on what I have. Plastic plant liners can be purchased in a roll, or you can make your own decorative barrier with wood scraps, pieces of branches cut in pieces, etc. Just make sure you bury the barrier a few inches down so the water doesn't run out from under it. Mulch is important to help keep evaporation down. Barriers can be made from large plastic bottles such as juice, kitty litter, or even coffee cans. The dollar stores have cheap plastic items that can be cut down with scissors. For existing plants where the circle won't fit over the plant, make it an open circle around the plant and overlap the ends an inch or so.

  2. Runoff is a problem where I live, in Florida with fine sand. Nothing gets past the first half inch without daily watering. Water bills are a huge consideration. We have to garden smarter to prevent runoff and maximize savings, because gardening can be very expensive and labor intensive, both of which can discourage people after the first try, depending on where you live and what is required. Container gardening provides an alternative for many. I've combined container gardening and modest bottom watering which has solved so many problems.

  3. Oare înainte de apariția plasticului nu se producea nimic?!
Prea mult plastic pentru o agricultură ecologică!

  4. This is great. I have this set up for a plant that is in exceptionally poor soil and it work very well. It also helps protect it as it is taller on the sides.

  5. That works great when the plant is small. But when the plant grows, roots will either follow the edges of the pot and get root bound or if not, the roots will spread away from the pot to the surrounding soil. Those roots will not get enough water and the plant will never grow to capacity.

  8. I'm planning on doing this to protect my vegetables from my horrendous GOPHERS here in northern California. I'll also add red pepper powder around the bottom edge for the same reason. Hell hath no fury like a VERY frustrated gardener!

  9. Thsnk you for this brilliant idea! I have a huge stack of pots I was considering giving away. Not now! I have never had luck with soil berms due to the thick mulch I use. ❤❤❤

  10. I make rings out of stainless sheet metal. Roughly 3 to 4 inches tall and a 24-36 inch circumference. Works REALLY WELL! You don't lose the food you feed to run off and you can deepwater your plants. I highly recommend something like this. Someday they'll be available for sale.

  11. Для чистоты эксперимента надо было третий посадить с бортиком но без мульчирующих листьев
