A Livonia man accused of shooting and wounding a father and son outside of a Garden City bar on New Year’s Day has been ordered to stand trial, according to media reports.
Brian Jaron Lindsay, 30, was bound over for trial in Wayne County Circuit Court on Monday, they said.
Court records said Lindsay’s bond was lowered to $200,000 during his preliminary examination in 21st District Court in Garden City. His bond was initially set at $1 million.
Lindsay’s attorney, Theodore Calvin Wallace III, said on Tuesday that his client is innocent.
“The evidence clearly shows that Mr. Lindsay was pulled out of his car by two unknown assailants and beaten to the point that Mr. Lindsay needs multiple surgeries on his face as well as a broken ankle,” Wallace said. “This was clearly self-defense and we look forward to clearing Mr. Lindsay’s name.”
Authorities allege the defendant shot and wounded two people outside the Rockstarz Bar on Ford Road west of Farmington Road in Garden City on New Year’s Day.
Police were called to the bar’s parking lot at about 4:15 a.m. for a report of shots fired, they said.
Medics took the two victims to a hospital, where they were listed in critical condition, officials said.
As police investigated, a person who identified himself as the alleged shooter in the incident called authorities to inform them that he intended to surrender, they said. The suspect arrived at the Garden City Police Department at about 2 p.m. and was taken into custody.
Days later, Lindsay was charged in connection with the shooting. He was charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, two counts of felonious assault, and six counts of using a firearm during the commission of a felony.
If convicted, he faces up to life for each of the assault with intent to murder charges.
