I began growing a few plants in my apartment window a few months ago, and I was quite worried when I noticed my rose plant’s leaves eaten through recently. I thought I’d assess the damage today but when I looked out of the window I saw a bee! Looked it up and found out that leafcutter bees do this a lot, and more importantly: they aren’t harmful! That’s a biiiig relief. Hope the bees are having fun! 🌹🐝❣️

this is honestly the cutest “plant damage” mystery to solve because leafcutter bees are basically borrowing tiny pieces for their homes. Your rose is helping raise baby bees, which feels like a pretty fair trade.

If they just came in 6′ version, I’d have so many carpentry projects for them…🙂. That was a beautiful clean cut along a curve!

If I remember well they use it for their nest, they’re adorable 🥰

You’ll have some amazing leaf shapes to brag about (≧▽≦)✨

Leafcutters are essential pollinators in most ecosystems they inhabit. US Agricultural Research Service reports that the efforts of one alfalfa leafcutter bee are equal to that of 20 honeybees. They’re voracious!
