  2. I prefer the loose 12 qt bags of Burpee seed starting mix over the little coir blocks. They're easy (for me at least) to find on clearance at the end of every season, and I just mix it with a 12 qt bag of Jiffy seed starting mix when it's time to sow my seeds for Spring. I also like that unlike the bricks, it has some starter fertilizer in it.

  3. Gary I have used your method of foil pans successfully in the past and unsuccessfully in my last attempt with onions. Miracle grow is "caustic" and my last attempt the "cheap" pans began to corrode and killed my onions seedlings with the subsequent chemical reaction. I frankly don't know how to tell "good" cheap pans from bad ones so I think in the future I will go with plastic. The loss of my first grow on onions for this year was a heartbreaker. I am in 9a so I plant October or November. I was late getting mine in this year:)

  4. I purchased the same sized bag of jiffy mix and coconut coir. I boiled 8 cups of water total (adding 4 cups, mixing it around) then repeating. The soil seemed to be the right consistency. But, man, do I have a fungus gnat problem now. I got a bag of mosquito bits and am bottom watering with that, and will also try 6 percent hydrogen peroxide in water (per recipe) .
But did I not add enough water? Too much? Just bad luck? Any suggestions or thoughts appreciated

  5. I think I will use this method with pie pans and using up lettuce seeds this year and then prick them out. I like the idea of mass planting with the bottom watering. Thanks for recommending a brand of coco coir who says they wash the salt out of the coir. Right now, I'm not growing a lot, so I just use the Jiffy, but later on I may look into this combo you are using. "… I don't need any more peppers right now…" 🤣

  6. Awesome idea, Gary. I use recycled containers completely to start my seedlings with multi sowing. I'm second guessing myself when it comes to transplanting my multi sow plants to the garden vs. putting them into cell trays. Have you noticed any difference when planting them out in the garden with transplant shock by disturbing the roots more? Love your channel!
